Green Carpets Cleaning

Pro Carpet Cleaning Tips

Even though there is such a wide selection of residential flooring products available now (including cork, bamboo, tile, vinyl, laminate, wood, stone, and vinyl), carpeting is still a very popular choice.

People like a carpeting for a variety of reasons, including the fact that it is warmer and softer underfoot, as well as the fact that it requires less maintenance and upkeep than hard-surface floors. In most cases, regular vacuuming and an occasional thorough scrubbing are all that is required to keep carpeting looking as though it were just installed.

In spite of your best efforts, however, sooner or later your carpet will become the victim of spills, splashes, messy accidents, and whatever you track in on the bottoms of your shoes. This will happen whether you try to prevent it or not.

First Piece of Advice: Blot Spills Instead of Rubbing Them!
Fight the urge to start scrubbing as soon as a stain or spill occurs, especially if the stain or spill is fresh. That won’t do anything but push the stain deeper into the carpet. Instead, dab the stains with a cleaning solution that has been applied to a clean cloth, paper towel, or sponge in a gentle motion.

Blotting outward can cause the stain to spread even further across the carpet, so always begin blotting from the edge of the stain and work your way inward toward the center.

The second piece of advice is that club soda and vinegar are on your side.

If you have heard that club soda can be used to remove beer and wine stains from carpeting, then you should know that this is true provided that you use it in the right way.

The first step is to blot the stain with club soda that has been poured onto a clean cloth. If the stain seems to be fading, apply additional club soda and try again. In the event that this does not work, combine equal parts water and white vinegar in a bowl, and then transfer the mixture to a portable spray bottle. Apply the solution to the stained area by spraying it, and then wait for it to soak in for ten to fifteen minutes. The next step is to press a clean, dry sponge onto the wet area in order to soak up the cleaning solution as well as the diluted stain. It may be necessary to repeat this process multiple times before the stain is completely removed.

Try Shaving Cream as Your Third Option

It may come as a surprise, but regular shaving cream is actually the most effective carpet cleaner for general stains. It is capable of removing just about any kind of stain. Apply the shaving cream to the stain in a direct application, and then let it sit for about half an hour. When the shaving cream has reached the desired consistency, use a clean, dry towel to blot it up.
