How to Wash Drapes

Drapery Cleaning in Ladera Ranch — Cleaning the draperies can prolong their life and free your home of unwanted dust, dirt, pet hair and other allergens.
Weekly Maintenance
Remove dust from your curtains with your vacuum. Most vacuums have a soft brush attachment which is fantastic for the drapes. Place the brush attachment on the end of brush and this hose in a up and down movement across the fabric. A hand-held vacuum also works nicely for this undertaking.
Washing the Drapes
IMPORTANT: Before trying to wash your draperies, CHECK THE TAGS. A few draperies should ONLY BE CLEANED PROFESSIONALLY. NEVER wash them :
They aren’t specifically labeled as washable (if they’re lined, make sure BOTH the drapery fabric and the lining are recorded as machine washable).
The fabric is damaged, frayed or faded (i.e. by sunlight)

Trim or other vases Aren’t recorded as color-fast

The draperies contain an indication for”dry clean only”
For anyone in your area, check your regional yellow pages. In case your draperies are machine washable, take heed of the label and follow these steps:
Carefully remove the curtains from the rods (it is best to have someone help you with this because you will most likely need a step stool or small ladder to reach the rods). NEVER tug or pull on the draperies to get down them as this may damage the fabric, the rods or the walls.
If the draperies are wrapped with pins or hooks remove and set them apart.
Hand wash a detergent such as Woolite and every panel in water. For large drapes, it may be much easier to use the tub rather than the sink.
In your washer, the drapes can be put Instead on the GENTLE cycle, as indicated on the label using warm or cold water. Opt for cold if the tag doesn’t indicate a temperature setting. Use a mild detergent without bleach. DO NOT overload your washer. If your draperies are big or bulky, look at taking them to a laundromat or doing the panels at a time where you are able to use washers.
Put the drapes in a drier on the atmosphere indicated on the label (most likely low heat). If no dryer setting is indicated, put “no heat” (fluff) setting. Take care to not overload the dryer.
Consider taking them to a laundromat with dryers or doing a single panel at a time. The most common source of harm to draperies during the cleaning process is warmth; when in doubt (especially if having a commercial dryer unfamiliar for you), use the”no heat” setting. Suggestion: If you’re fortunate enough to possess an old clothesline, then rather than the dryer, hang your draperies out to dry on the clothesline. You won’t need to be concerned about overheating, and the drapes are going to have fresh odor that is natural. To maintain fabric avoid hanging in sun.
Remove out of your dryer immediately if needed, and press. Again, check your tag. Use a cool iron, if no indication is given. To avoid damage, use the iron only.
Replace the pins hooks (if any) and then re-hang the draperies on the sticks. It is best to do so with a different individual assisting.
