How to Wash Drapes

Drapery Cleaning in Foster City — Cleaning the draperies can prolong their life and free your house of dust, dirt, pet hair and allergens.
Weekly Maintenance
Remove dust from your curtains with your vacuum. Most vacuums have. Simply place the brush attachment on the end of sweep and the attachment hose in an up and down motion across the fabric. A vacuum also works nicely for this undertaking.
Washing the Drapes
IMPORTANT: Before trying to wash your draperies, CHECK THE TAGS. A few draperies should BE CLEANED PROFESSIONALLY. NEVER wash them :
They aren’t specifically labeled as washable (when they’re lined, make sure BOTH the drapery fabric and the liner are listed as machine washable).
The fabric is damaged, frayed or faded (i.e. by sun )

The draperies are pleated

Trim or other vases are not listed as color-fast

The draperies contain a sign for”dry clean only”
If the draperies suggest”dry clean only,” you ought to take them to a dry cleaner that specializes in draperies and window treatments. Take heed of this tag and follow these simple steps, if your draperies are machine washable:
Carefully remove the curtains from the rods (it is best to have someone assist you with this because you will probably need a step stool or little ladder to reach the rods). NEVER pull or tug on the draperies to receive them down since this might harm the walls, the rods or the cloth.
The draperies are hung with pins or hooks In the event , carefully remove and place them apart.
Hand wash a detergent such as Woolite and each panel in cool water. For large drapes, it may be easier to use the tub in place of the sink.
Instead, the curtains can be placed on the GENTLE cycle in your washer, using warm or cold water, as indicated on the tag. If the tag doesn’t indicate a temperature setting, elect for cold. Use a mild detergent without bleach. DO NOT overload your washer. Look at carrying them or doing the panels at a time at which you can use washers if your draperies are large or bulky.
Place the drapes in a dryer on the setting indicated on the label (most likely low heat). Be careful to not overload the dryer.
Look at doing one panel at one time or taking them to a laundromat with dryers that are oversized. The usual cause of damage to draperies through the cleaning process is warmth; if in doubt (especially if using a commercial drier unfamiliar for you), use the”no heat” setting. TIP: If you are lucky enough to have an old clothesline, rather than the dryer, hang your draperies out to dry on the clothesline. You won’t need to be concerned about overheating, and the drapes are going to have natural scent that is fresh. To keep fabric avoid hanging in direct sun.
Eliminate draperies from your dryer and press if desired. Again, assess your label for settings. Use a cool iron, if no indication is given. To prevent damage, use the iron only on the side of their draperies.
Replace the pins hooks (if any) and then re-hang that the draperies on the sticks. It is best to do this with a different person.
