Decorating Your Home for Less This Spring

Decorating for Spring

After a long, dreary, and wet winter on the west coast, one of my favorite times of year to decorate is spring. After that, I’m usually extremely thrilled to bring in some bright, new spring colors. And while it’s possible that my bins of spring decorations are still tucked away in the farthest corner of my excessively crowded storage unit, I still wanted to share some ideas and pointers with you for bringing spring into your house on a budget. After having to contend with the epidemic and its associated constraints for an entire year, I believe that all of us are more than a little excited about the arrival of spring weather and the prospect of happier times in the weeks and months to come. I really hope that you are able to find some ideas that will inspire you to give your house a spring-like atmosphere that is bright and fresh without having to spend a lot of money.

Renovating a space or starting fresh are both excellent activities for springtime. This time around, we will be remodeling the room that belongs to my youngest child. She would comment that the current decor in her room is “not my style” or “too mom-ish,” and she would say these things in a condescending tone. A few years ago, we finally made the decision to convert our guest bedroom into my office. As a result, her room is now equipped to accommodate visitors.

When I am redecorating a space, particularly for people who have discerning tastes, I try to keep things as straightforward and cost-effective as is humanly possible. Maintaining consistency in the furniture and floor coverings is a huge assist in making this goal a reality. Additionally, it is quite helpful to allow children to feel as though they are a part of the process.

There is a preconceived belief that carpet is too plain, but there are so many different types, colors, and patterns available that there is literally something for everyone. This contradicts the idea that carpet is too vanilla. Always in style is the practice of placing a warm and cushy cushion beneath a child’s feet first thing in the morning. If you want to give it a little more pizzazz, one of my favorite ways to do so without spending a lot of money is to layer a throw rug over the top of a carpet.

When the girls start moving around and bouncing off the walls, it really helps to soften the sound of the gymnastics tumbles, while also keeping them safe from slipping and falling.

Carpet contributes to healthier environments, which is beneficial for everyone, including those who suffer from asthma and allergies, which is why we are constantly working to enhance the air quality within our homes despite the fact that the air quality outside is now so poor. I am always looking for new methods to assist my daughters in maintaining clean and tidy bedrooms, and carpet is one of the things that truly help keep dust to a minimum in these spaces. In their most recent version, asthma and allergy guidelines published by the National Institutes of Health’s National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) do not include any advice about the removal of carpets as a treatment option for asthma and allergies.

Scrub and straighten up!
When spring arrives, one of the finest ways to see your home with new eyes is to begin the season by giving it a thorough cleaning and reorganizing it. At this time of year, the longer days give us newfound energy, and the sunlight shining through the windows surely reveals places that need to be dusted and cleaned.

To kick off this time of the year, one of my favorite things to do is give the kitchen, including the pantry and the refrigerator, a thorough cleaning. Nothing gives the impression of a more recent update than a home that is clean and well-organized, and this is one piece of advice that everyone, regardless of the financial limitations they may be under, can employ.
